6 Health Benefits of Organic Peace Silk
Over the three weeks partnering with the Maiyet Collective at Bicester Village for the launch of our White Lotus Collection last month, I've had the pleasure in speaking to many shoppers and introducing them to the world of Organic Peace Silk. Many were not aware of this innovation into a more sustainable alternative that promotes social, environmental and animal welfare. Aside from silk known for being the most luxurious fabric in the world, this beautiful fabric isn't just for the look, its glory extends to many unique health benefits too:
1. HELPS SLOWS DOWN AGEING
Silk is a natural material packed with essential amino acids and natural protein. The tightly-woven, smooth fibres of silk helps decrease skin's moisture loss and promotes the rejuvenation of the skin. Hydrated, plump skin cells show fewer lines or wrinkles, and more luminosity than dehydrated skin cells, keeping you looking more youthful and vibrant. Silk also contains natural cellular albumen, which helps speed up the metabolism of the skins cells, which help reduce the signs of ageing.
2. SELF SOOTHING & NURTURING
Silk provides a beautiful tender and soft feeling effect on skin that tricks and calm down the central nervous systems. Just like stroking and warm temperatures, the touch of silk on the surface provides the low-intensity stimulation that releases Oxytocin. Oxytocin is a hypothalamic nonapeptide that provides a positive impact on wellbeing, stress release and promotes health.
3. HELP IMPROVES SLEEP
Silk is a breathable fabric and a natural heat regulator that is able to maintain the air around you at a comfortable temperature when you sleep. The smooth surface of silk sleepwear or bedding means there are little friction between your skin and bed linen, and minimum sleep wrinkles. Silk also is the natural thinner, lighter and more flexible natural fibre; this means it does not set pressure on your body; it facilitates movement and enhances your natural body rest.
4. HELP IMPROVE HAIR HEALTH
From hair accessories to sleeping on silk, your hair glides on silk's smooth surface instead of being caught by harsh fibres. Usually, during sleep hair strands rub against one another, leading to dull and frizzy hair. In addition, unlike cotton, which is a highly absorbent material which wicks away the natural moisture present in hair and skin. This reduction in moisture makes your hair strands more prone to breakage.
5. REDUCE SKIN IRRITATION
Silk is a material that is very agreeable with people who suffer from allergies and have sensitive skin. Silk cocoon is composed of the proteins, sericin and fibroin. Sericin is the glue-like substance that helps form the cocoon shape and naturally repel bacteria and fungus to keep the silkworm safe. When woven into a cloth, it protects the allergy-prone to human as well.
6. GREATER HAPPINESS
Doing good deeds can bring untold amounts of happiness; both for the recipient and the benefactor. Nobody loses when it comes to kindness. Unlike conventional silk, Organic peace silk is cruelty-free and produced without the use of harmful chemicals in the growing and production of the fabric. Ensuring the animals are not harmed in the process, the silkworms are left to complete their lifecycle to become butterflies before the thread is unwound. In addition, Ethical Kind's sustainable and fair trade production meets with social and environmental criteria to ensure a decent income to silk farmers and makers, in return we are reviving a tradition so the future can thrive.
