Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What kind of silkworm breed do you use, and how do the moths emerge from the cocoons unharmed?
We use Tussar Silk, which is produced by the larvae of silkworms from the Antheraea moth genus, including Antheraea mylitta, Antheraea pernyi, Antheraea roylei, and Antheraea yamamai. These silkworms thrive in the wild forests, feeding on trees like Asan, Arjun, and Jamun. Our Tussar Silk is a form of organic peace silk, where moths are allowed to naturally emerge from their cocoons. This process ensures they remain unharmed, reflecting our commitment to ethical and sustainable practices.
2. What happens to the moths after they emerge? Do they live out their natural lifespan?
After emerging from their cocoons, the moths are allowed to live out their natural lifespan. Some are kept for breeding to ensure a continuous cycle of silk production, while others are free to live naturally in their environment.
3. How can you prove that this is peace silk? Are there certifications?
Our silk and production processes are certified by GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) through our trusted supplier in India. This certification ensures that all materials and processes adhere to stringent organic and ethical standards. We can provide supporting documentation for verification upon request.
4. Are the dyes and dyeing process GOTS certified, or is it only the organic silk that is certified?
Both the silk and dyes used in our pillowcases are GOTS certified. This means that not only is our silk organically produced, but the entire dyeing process is environmentally friendly, adhering to strict organic standards.
5. What is the quality grade of your silk?
Our silk is made with a GSM of 95, which is equivalent to a 22–30 momme grade in traditional silk. This ensures a luxurious texture, exceptional durability, and a beautiful shine.
6. Do your pillowcases have a zipper closure?
Our pillowcases feature an envelope closure, offering a sleek, seamless look while ensuring ease of use. This design eliminates the need for zippers or buttons, maintaining a smooth, elegant finish.
7. Are the interior seams French seamed or overlocked?
The interior seams of our pillowcases are French seamed, providing a high-quality finish with no exposed raw edges. This ensures durability and contributes to the overall luxurious feel of the product.
8. Which color stains the least?
Lighter colors, such as ivory or natural tones, tend to show fewer visible stains over time compared to darker shades. However, all our silk pillowcases are easy to care for and retain their elegance with proper maintenance.
9. Are your silk pillowcases PFAS-free?
Yes, our silk pillowcases are entirely PFAS-free. This ensures that they are safe, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly, reflecting our commitment to your health and the planet.
10. I’ve heard that mulberry silk is best for hair and skin, but peace silk can feel rougher. Is that true?
Natural Tussar silk may feel slightly rougher initially due to the presence of sericin, a natural protein produced by silkworms that gives raw silk its characteristic texture. However, we carefully degum the silk during our production process, removing this natural gum without the use of harsh chemicals. This ensures a softer, cleaner feel and preserves the silk’s integrity. As a result, our organic peace silk offers a luxurious texture that’s gentle on both hair and skin, making it a wonderful alternative to traditional mulberry silk.
11. Can you explain the texture and benefits of your peace silk pillowcases?
Our peace silk pillowcases offer a soft, luxurious texture with a slightly more natural feel than traditional mulberry silk. They help reduce skin irritation, minimize hair frizz, and provide a breathable surface, making them perfect for restful sleep.
