At Ethical Kind, we believe business can be a force for positive change. From the materials we choose and the people we work with to the way our pieces are made, our aim is to create beautiful products with consideration for people, animals and the planet.

Giving back has been part of this philosophy from the beginning.

Supporting education in Jharkhand

In 2021, Ethical Kind committed 5% of its net turnover to Adivasi Kalyan Samitee, an NGO supporting rural and social development in Jharkhand, India — the region connected to the production of our Peace Silk.

Our contribution was directed towards education at Marghantu Middle School, supporting opportunities for children in the surrounding rural communities.

We chose education because we believe every child should have the opportunity to learn, play, grow and thrive. Access to education can have an impact far beyond the classroom, helping to create greater opportunities for individuals, families and communities.

Why giving back matters

For us, success has never been about growth alone. It is also about considering the impact of the choices we make as a business.

This starts with our supply chain. We carefully select suppliers, makers and partners whose approach aligns with our values, and we consider where and how our money is spent.

As Ethical Kind grows, our ambition is to build on this foundation and develop a long-term giving programme that is meaningful, transparent and financially sustainable.

Rather than making commitments before we can consistently sustain them, we want our future contributions to grow alongside the business and create genuine, lasting impact.

About Marghantu Middle School

Marghantu Middle School was founded in 2019 in Maranghatu, Jharkhand, India, with support from our Peace Silk supplier Cocccon UG.

At the time of Ethical Kind's 2021 initiative, the school provided free education to children aged 5–15, with teaching including Maths, English and Hindi.

Our 2021 commitment was intended to help support the school's educational resources and its work to improve access to learning for children within the surrounding communities.

Responsible business is a journey, and we believe transparency about where we are is as important as our ambitions for where we want to go.

As Ethical Kind develops, we want positive impact to grow with us — through responsible sourcing and production, long-term relationships with our partners and, as the business becomes stronger, renewed charitable giving.

Our original 2021 education initiative aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education — ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all.
